Imagine a grandfather by the name of Generoso, eagerly awaiting a day of tending the vines with his friends, a group of ninety somethings, on the sides of the Vulture (pronounced “VUHL too ray”) mountain. A tradition of grape growing and winemaking has been passed down to his granddaughter, the dynamic Elena, who returned to Basilicata with her husband Andrea to start the winery in the year 2000, so that the vineyards could remain in her family.
As if this is not enough of a storybook, Elena Fucci went on to become one of the most decorated winemakers in Italy. Her Aglianico del Vulture is a regular in the tastings of some of the best wines in Italy, and have been recognized with multiple Tre Bicchieri (3 Glasses) awards from Gambero Rosso, and multiple appearances in OperaWine, Vinitaly’s tasting featuring the producers selected by Wine Spectator in the Top 100 Italian Wines.
The volcanic soil of Monte Vulture provides a unique aromatic burst to this Aglianico, one of the most important grapes in Italian winemaking. The specific elevation of Elena’s vineyards provides a soil type that provides structure and aroma, but also a climate that lengthens the growing season. She has one of the latest harvests in Italy, in November. This extended growing season allows for the tannins to ripen, and soften their mouthfeel.

Titolo Aglianico del Vulture DOC: differentiated from the Aglianico wines of Campania by its ruby color and firm but fine-grained tannin, along with the aromatic burst of dried rose. This Aglianico is also complemented by an earthiness that is distinctly Italian. A true special occasion wine. Data Sheet
