As the year ends, we reflect back on everything that has happened with gratitude. Two years ago we started with 2 wine producers we represented, two pallets of wine, one customer, and a disco warehouse.
We now represent 20 winemakers and one spirits producer, we are in 4 states and the district, and we have over 100 wholesale customers in MD/DC. We’ve been part of phenomenal wine dinners with ethereal pairings. We got our first placements at a Michelin Star restaurant. We have a mascot, Amethyst, and a collaboration with Checkerspot Brewing right here in my Baltimore neighborhood.
My biggest point of pride is the team we have built. Wide Roots is not my cult of personality and I never wanted it to be. This company is as much Staci’s and Vinny’s as it is mine. They are shaping it in ways I could never have imagined nor done on my own. There is a magic that happens upon relinquishing that control. Small business is scary, and has many sleepless nights wondering how we will pay the bills. We have a long way to go but this team will figure it out, and I really like our plan for 2023.
To Italy, who has adopted and wrapped its arms around this working class kid with barely a shred of Mediterranean ancestry, thank you for charming me with your culture and passion.
To our winemakers, you and your families are an inspiration and we are proud to represent you.
To our customers and out of state partners, your belief in what we are doing is humbling and we will continue to look for ways to not only satisfy you but also to delight you.
To our supporters, friends, and followers, you are the fuel that keeps this going and your kind words are with me during those sleepless nights.
To Staci and Vinny, not a day goes by that I’m not grateful for both of you.
Wishing everyone a great 2023.
