In 1998, Catia Spinsanti built a winery on lands purchased by her father, Adino, a generation earlier. With her winery located on the slopes of Monte Conero, Catia has honed her craft, with a dedication to expressing the characters of the soil, sun, and sea breezes from the Adriatic.
The techniques used by Catia and Spinsanti are very familiar, as they preserve the special characters of the grapes, and provide minimal intervention to allow those characters to shine. Vines are hand-tended and hand-harvested; the best grapes are selected, and small boxes are used to assure that the gentle aromatic compounds are preserved. And Catia’s personality and passion are the secret ingredient; drinking her wines is like being invited into one of her family gatherings.
The denomination of Rosso Conero Doc is lesser known, but produces wonderfully complex wines that punch way above their weight. Located near the beautiful beaches on the Adriatic Sea near Ancona, in Le Marche region, these wines are Montepulciano-dominant, with smaller portions of Sangiovese sometimes blended in. Wine has been made in this region possibly back to 3,000 years ago. Catia produces two Rosso Conero Doc wines, “Adino” and “Camars”.
We are also pleased to bring Sisto V Pont. Max, a sparkling Pecorino wine. The Pecorino grape, named after the sheep that inhabit the region (and not to be confused with the sheep’s milk cheese), is common in Marche and Abruzzo regions. This unusual but great value sparkling wine is wonderful to sip by the seaside or in the backyard.
Products:
Sisto V Pont. Max Spumante Brut: made from 100% Pecorino grapes, this dry sparkling white wine sees some contact with grape skins during fermentation, preserving special aromatic compounds. Made using the “Charmat” method, where carbonation occurs in a tank prior to bottling under pressure, this sparkling wine has the bright acidity associated with Pecorino, while also showing herbal and acacia characters with the minerality of the land. Data Sheet
Adino Rosso Conero Doc: a blend of 90% Montepulciano and 10% Sangiovese, and named after Catia’s father, this wine sees 8 months of barrel aging, providing it with additional structure, tannin, and complexity. Excellent with roasted and grilled meats and vegetables. Data Sheet
Camars Rosso Conero Doc: this version is made from 100% Montepulciano grapes, and also sees 18 months of small barrel aging, stepping up the contribution of the oak. This is full bodied and intense, but also manages to retain its elegance…it lingers on the palate and does not overwhelm it. Also great with grilled and roasted meats and vegetables. Data Sheet
